Astrologer Sunil Dutt in conversation with Hemamalini Raghunathan
From when did you start taking interest in Astrology? Any specific incident? How did you learn? Are you a practising Astrologer?
I started my journey to learn astrology from January 2000, by formally taking admission in Jyotisha Alankar at Bharatiya Vidhya Bhawan, New Delhi [Now K.N Rao Institute of Astrology]. After completeting Jyotish Acharya in December 2001, I was fortunate to get the opportunity to attend the Research classes under Shri. K.N Rao, continuously for five years, due to which I got the subtle points of astrology, along with the emphasis for the timing of event with the help of different Dasa systems. K.N Rao institute of Astrology is like the I.I.T of astrology, as it has given so many successful astrologers to the world. After the birth of my son in December 1995, I was very keen to learn the subject, as I have shown his horoscope to many astrologers, and I was very concerned after each consultation. I am practising astrology and seen more than 10000 `s in the last twenty four years, as I was the member of a free astrology forum, with a spirit to serve the people and learn the subject deeper and deeper.
Vedic Astrology uses Dasa system, mainly to time events. Sage Parasara has given different types of dasa systems. Kindly explain a few of them.
Sage Parashar has given different types of Dasa systems to time the event—Vimshottari Dasa [most popular] applicable to all charts, Dwadashottari Dasa when Navamsa Lagna is Taurus or Libra , Dwisaptati Sama Dasa when Lagna lord in 7th house or 7th lord in Lagna, Chaturshiti Sama Dasa when 10th lord in 10th house, Shtabdika Dasa, when Lagna is Vargottama [ Rasi and Navamsa Lagna is the same], Shastihayini Dasa, when Sun is in Lagna etc. Now let me illustrate this with the help of a few examples. In the last U.S elections, I made the prediction of the success of Mr. Joe Biden, 20 November 1942, 8.30am, Scranton, Pennsylvania, U.S.A
In Lagna chart, if exalted Jupiter is in 1st, 4th, 7th, 10th, 5th or 9th house, and Moon or Mercury or Venus is conjunct or aspecting the Jupiter.
In case of Mr. Joe Biden, Jupiter is exalted and Moon in 10th house not only making the Gajkesari Yoga, but also influencing the Jupiter being in 10th house from Jupiter.
In October 2020, he was under Jupiter-Rahu-Jupiter period in Vimshottari.10th lord in Lagna, with 7th lord aspected by Vargottama 5th lord [Jupiter] and Saturn[4th Lord].
I usually use at least three Dasas [Vimshottari Dasa, Conditional Dasas like Dwadashottari, Chaturshiti Sama Dasa etc and Jaimini Chara Dasa] to give any prediction. As per my Gurujee Shri K.N. Rao, Saturn in transit is Kaal [Time] and Jupiter is the blessing. It is useful to pinpoint the area, where both are influencing simultaneously. But it’s the Dasa, which is the key to pinpoint the timing of the event.
Jupiter [5th lord] is exalted and well placed in 9th house. Rahu in 10th house, though not in a Rajyoga, but the sign-lord Sun is well placed in Lagna and under the aspect of 5th lord Jupiter, a Rajyoga.
He was under Jupiter-Rahu-Jupiter [Vimsottari Period], Jupiter is well placed in D-1 and D-9, In D-9, Rahu is in 9th house with Saturn, the 4th lord [Masses] , 10th lord[Moon] making many strong Rajyogas. Rahu in the Lagna of D-10 aspected by Mars again a Rajyoga, as Lagna behaves both as trikone and Kendra and Mars is the lord of 7th house [Kendra].
In Sahstihyani Dasa as Sun is in Lagna, he was under Sun-Jupiter-Rahu from 25th September, 2020 blessed him to win the election.In the chart of Joe Biden 7th lord Venus in lagna, so Dwisaptati Sama Dasa is applicable. He was under Mars-Jupiter-Jupiter period in October 2020. Mars and Jupiter are at 4-10 to each other. Jupiter[5th lord] is exalted and Vargottama in 9th house of D-1 and in 10thhouse of D-9. Mars[Lagna lord] is under the sign- exchange with Venus[7 lord,12 lord], a Rajyoga; Some other features of the chart; Lagna lord [Mars] and 9 lord Moon are aspecting each other at 6-12 axis, a Rajyoga; Rahu and Ketu are under Nakshatra exchange.
Venus (12 lord, 7 lord] and Mars[Lagna lord] are under sign-exchange [Rajyoga]8th lord in 12th house with 6th lord [Mars], under the sign-exchange with Venus 12 lord, perfect Vipreet Raja Yoga. Now in this prediction, three Dasas were used [Vimshottari, Dwisaptati Sama Dasa and Shastihayini Dasa] and all were pointing towards the success of current U.S President.

Which dasa systems do you use generally, for your clients? Could you explain one or two dasa systems with theory and case-study?

Recently King Charles [14th November 1948, 21.14hrs, London] is diagnosed with Cancer (his chart is available on astrodatabank with ‘A’ rating). Let me explain this through Vimshottari Dasa and Dwadshottari Dasa.
As per B.B.C report, he was diagnosed with the disease on 6th February 2024. The Jupiter and Saturn, in transit aspecting the 8th lord Saturn in Leo in his chart. He was under Jupiter-Sun-Mercury in Vimshottari period [31st January 2024] , Jupiter is the 6th Lord[ disease] and Sun is the 2nd Lord[Marak] and Mercury is the 3rd and 12th Lord conjunct with Sun in 4th house; and both Sun and Mercury are under the aspect of Saturn. Saturn is in Mrityu Bhag degree. Since the Navamsa Lagna of King Charles is Libra, Dwadshottari Dasa is applicable; he is under Moon-Jupiter-Saturn[ from 1st February 2024], Moon is closely conjunct with Rahu in 10th house aspected by Jupiter , the 6th lord of disease . Saturn the pratyantar Dasha lord in Mrityu Bhag degree, in 2nd house, as 8th lord and 7th lord, hinting towards the health issue. Saturn is also aspected by 6th Lord Jupiter. Jupiter is the 6th lord, both in Rasi[D-1] and Navmansha[D-9]. In both Dasas the role of 2nd house[Marak] is coming.

On 31st December 2023, Queen Margrethe of Denmark[16th April 1940, 10.10 am, Copenhagen] announced abdication on 14th January 2024. Her chart is available on astrodatabank with AA rating , I will explain the event with the help of Vimshottari Dasa and Yogini Dasa, as other Conditional dasa is not fitting in her chart.
She was under Rahu-Venus-Moon Vimsottari Period from 15th November 2023, The Antardasa lord Venus is well placed in own house in the 11th house of the chart, which is 8th from the 4th house[Simhasan, Throne]. In D-9 again, Venus is in 11th house, which is 8th from the 4th house. Mars, the 5th and 10th lord is also in 11th house. In D-10, Venus and Moon, the antar and pratyantar dasa lords are in 4th house, but with Saturn, the 11th lords [8th from 4th house] and Ketu, clearly showing the retirement. In Yogini Dasa, she was under Saturn-Venus-Saturn period from 15th December 2023. Saturn is the 8th lord from Lagna, and Venus is in the 8th house from the 4th house, confirming her abdication. In transit, both Saturn and Jupiter are activating her 8th house [Change], as Saturn is in Aquarius and Jupiter is transiting in Aries on her 8th lord Saturn. Moon, though in Lagna as Lagna lord ,with Paksha Balam [9th day of Shukla Paksha] aspected by Jupiter, but in Kemdrum Yoga; so weak and debilitated in Navamsa.
King Frederik [16th May 1968,23.50, Copenhagen] succeeded his mother on 14th January 2024 .He was under Saturn-Saturn-Moon period from 30th October 2023. Saturn is in 4th house[throne] and in vargottama and in the sign of Jupiter, which is praised in classics. Saturn is aspecting the 4th house in D-9, and it is in the 4th house in D-10. Moon the pratyantar dasa lord in 2nd house which is 11th (gain) from the 4th house. Since he was born during Krishna Paksha, and his Lagna is in the Hora of Moon [16degree 57 minutes, Dhanu], Shodashottari Dasa is applicable. He was under Mars-Jupiter-Sun period at the time of Succession on 14th January 2024. Jupiter, the antardasa lord, is the lord of 4th house[Throne] and in 9th house , a Rajyoga, as Mars the 5th lord is aspecting the Jupiter the 4th lord; Mars the 5th lord is with 9th lord Sun and 10th lord Mercury, making multiple Rajyogas in 6th house. Jupiter [4th lord] the antardasa lord, is aspecting the Lagna of D-1, D9 and D-10 Dasamsa]. Jupiter is aspecting the Sun in Navamsa and Dasamsa[ Rajlakshan Yoga]. In transit, Jupiter is in Aries, the 5th house; Saturn is in Aquarius, aspecting Aries, activating the purva punyas[5th house] to become the King .

Nowadays in India, several lakhs of students try for I.I.T, Medical entrance, C.A.T, C.A and U.P.S.C etc, It is important to evaluate first the promise in a chart and then the Dasa pattern at the time of appearing for the Competitive examination. Without favorable Dasa, it is not possible to be successful in India[Desh, Kaal , Patra], as the competition is very tough, due to less number of seats and vast population of our country.
